Interactive novel - BE SURE TO READ THIS - Be my detective

 Captain Denver

Who killed Ana Sase -2

Foreword by the writer

Dear reader!

What he holds in his hand is actually a novel. It’s just a little different than the novels you’ve read so far. If you don’t read this, you’ve read nothing new in your life. This novel is different from the novels that were written according to principles that were adopted hundreds of years ago and only slightly changed.

Initially, the writers in the novel merely told their story. Time was followed. The story began at the beginning of the novel and the story ended with the end of the novel. It was like when a table company was feeling good on long winter evenings, didn’t want to leave yet and needed someone who, in his own words, by telling an interesting story, would condemn even the consoling people.

Then, as time passed and literary forms renewed, novelists also tried to find other ways. They tried to deviate from the template and dazzle readers with something new. But this did not always work. Thus, for hundreds of years, little has changed in the structure of the novel.

Of course, education also contributed to this. For centuries, it has been taught in school that good wording is three contiguous parts of introduction, negotiation, and conclusion. In the introduction we will tell you what it will be about, in the trial we will tell you what happened and in the conclusion we will draw conclusions. But this is not a statute. No one has ever carved a stone that this should happen.

There were writers who experimented. Most tried to play over time. The novel began at the most interesting part. They then told me what had happened before and then returned again to continue the plot. In this, mainly crime novels were at the forefront, although they are just not much appreciated by literary experts. Though they showed the way, they dared to walk new paths. They deserve respect. And not only Agatha Christi or Georges Simenon, but also the authors of less successful works that are not known to many.

Playing with time can also be observed in legionary and adventure novels. Jenő Rejtő (aka P. Howard and several other pseudonymous authors) gladly reached out to this method.

There were also those who went further. In his work The Symbol, Alvah Bessie, for example, leads the event on two parallel threads.

But you can go further than that. And this novel went further. Want to show something new in:

1. This is the first novel written with an internet translator. Even though I know that web translators still compile with a relatively large number of errors, I still chose this option. Because why is there an option if we don't take advantage of it. I tried to choose a theme and structure the novel in such a way that it would not be confusing, but on the contrary would be understandable and acceptable to the reader.

I used Google's compiler. On the one hand, because it is one of the best, or even the best. On the other hand, because the vast majority of those who use a compiler on the Internet use just that program. Why not try novelism then?

2. This is a novel. More than 99.99 percent of novels should be read by reading from beginning to end. The sheets are folded in a row, one after the other. But who claimed that this was the only way to read a novel? And why?

It is often said that life is the best novelist. It is often said that even the greatest twists in the novels dwarf the twists and turns that occur in life. Then why not try to bring the plot-leading of the novel closer to the plot-leading of real life?

In real life, the characters almost never know the events in chronological order. Most of the time, they only hear about one thing after another and then put together a mosaic of events themselves, as they see fit. Of course, this also means that the same series of stories in life does not show the same mosaic image in all people and does not always. Some see the events in one way and others in a very different way. Moreover, it is also regular that people often change their opinions and mosaic images of individual events almost minute by minute. Why not allow them to do this in the novel as well, if someone else says that the novel is a picture of life.

There are several ways to allow people to read the events of the novel’s plot in the order they just want. Some writers have experimented with this as well. It is a great pity that novelists trained in the school system are accustomed to traditions and not only are these experiments not appreciated, but most of the time they are spoken of in an unfoundedly derogatory, derogatory manner.

My experiment is a novel. The novel has an introductory chapter that needs to be read first. There is also a concluding chapter that needs to be read last. The chapters between the two chapters are so strangely short that each fits on a printed page. The reader reads these pages in the order you want. I'm just the writer. I know that for many hundreds of years it was considered a fundamental right of writers to tell the reader how to read a novel. My opinion is different: What right should I tell the reader in what order to read. After all, there is no one in life who tells people in what order they can learn certain things. And the novel wants to be life.

Of course, the structure of the novel must be constructed in such a way that this process is natural. Enforcing the reader’s right is a natural process and not some special merit.

3. Perhaps most importantly: This novel is interactive to some extent. In life, there is always two-way communication between people. Even when one does not speak, just listens to a lecture, or pays attention to the speech, behavior, actions of others, he still has his own reaction. He may not express them in words, only in thoughts.

In novels, no matter how much they try to resemble real life, this is not the case. Although the opinion appears in the reader, it is pointless, it cannot affect anything. This is just an apparent two-way communication.

This novel encourages active participation by the reader. He asks you to take part in the plot. On the one hand, it determines the order of reading. It also determines when what information the book will pass on to him. On the other hand, the chapters regularly seek their opinions. You need to answer a simple question.

This answer can be based on simple intuition or well-thought-out things based on knowledge. After the answer, the chapter asks you to justify your answer. This stimulates the reader to think. Here, the reader is not merely a human individual absorbing information, but a person making a decision in the knowledge of events.

This is not my first book like this. "Mai mese" has already been written in Hungarian, which is a novel novelty (it will soon be available in English under the title "Today`s Story") due to its interactivity and completely different factors. novel for the reader.

How do we read this novel?

Be sure to read the first chapter first. Its title is The Police Officer's Introduction. There is a list at the end of this chapter. Choose which of the listed people you want to start reading with. Find the page section associated with the person by the number in front of the name. Read the chapter, which consists of three parts: The police officer’s place and personality drawing, the person’s confession, and then the police officer’s remark. Then answer a simple question: Who do you think committed the murder? Then briefly, in 3-5 sentences, explain your opinion. Then read another chapter. Once you have answered this question in a previous chapter, you can flip back and read what you post before each new answer. After all, you are conducting a separate investigation. In this novel, you are also a detective.

Towards the end of the book, just before the last chapter, you will also find some blank pages. At the top of the pages are the following texts: My Comments :, Suspects (and why) :, Who else to ask :, Unclear questions :.

Write your opinion and thoughts on these pages as well. I know the school taught us not to scribble in the book. But I still say, write calmly on the pages. So this book will not be a book, but your book. Only yours.

Once you have read all the testimonies, read the concluding chapter of the novel.

Thank you very much for following the instructions above. I wish you a good reading and a good investigation.

The Police Officer's Introduction

My name is Dragan Vigor. I am 32 years old and a police detective. I can’t say I graduated from schools, high school, and college with the best results, but I wasn’t the worst student either. I think I learned everything I needed to get the job done. If I need something I don't know, I'll ask the others. Someone will only be able to tell you what to do in that situation and how.

I wrote in my biography that I speak English. This was a very cool thing back then and English was required in many jobs. Of course, we studied English at school and at university, English was the foreign language I took the exam from. The way I did, but I got a through ticket. Of course, I know my English is quite incomplete. Honestly, it would not be enough to ask for buttered bread in an restaurant in England.

But somehow I prospered in life without English knowledge. Anyway, my father was still saying at the time: Speak Serbian so that the whole world understands. Today I know that is not enough. I should know English and it wouldn’t hurt to speak two or three more foreign languages at my native level. I would prosper much better in life and have a greater opportunity to work abroad. (And maybe knowledge would help at work)

It's not like I really want to go abroad. Of course, that salary would be very good, because we earn eight to ten times less at home than in developed countries, and the prices are almost the same. Moreover, for some everyday necessities, they are even higher than in developed countries. But what kind of work could I do in one of those developed countries?

So I want to prosper at home. I'm not complaining, it's going well. It helps a lot to be able to work on the computer. If I need some English text, I use a compiler. I know this way the translation is not perfect. I see it in the text translated from English to Serbian. And I don’t think the text translated from Serbian to English could be much better either. But it is completely understandable and most importantly.

So I wrote in my biography that I speak English. So far, there has been no problem with this. No one wanted to speak to me in English. But now that the American captain, the Denver captain, had come and asked us to take out an old case because he wanted to clarify a few things, the commander had entrusted me with the task.

More specifically, he wanted me to translate the minutes of the interrogations. But I have to omit any data that might point to time. I must also omit the names of the towns and villages and the names of the interrogated and others. Only the name of the murdered Ana Sase can be on the record because Captain Denver knows it anyway.

Of course, I still use the compiler. The material will surely be good enough for the captain to understand. Nor do I individually understand why this old case had to be brought out. It happened even before Serbian troops marched on Srebrnica. Muslim police worked in the city. Then they investigated, took the minutes and closed the case. Maybe they were a bit in a hurry because of the invasion of Serbs. In any case, the case was closed on the grounds that the perpetrator was unknown.

So now I’m here with a bunch of minutes that I have to rewrite, skip data, and then translate the whole thing into English. But in the end, I don’t really mind it. I think I'll be done with it in about a month. Maybe a little sooner. Then I transfer everything to the Americans and hand it over to Captain Denver. Be happy with him if he thinks he will solve the matter.

In the meantime, I had an idea: If I’m already working that much on the material, I’ll publish it in book form. I also have two colleagues who line up old local crimes and rewrite them into criminal histories. It is said that 20-25 such crimes are recorded in a book and then released. and they will be famous. Well, I'm not stupider than them either. In fact.

It’s true that it’s never been easier to publish a book than it is now, for online publishers. It can be done almost for free. A person should invest no more than his time. That, thank God, is enough.

But I outdo my colleagues. In Bosnia today, a paper-based printed book can be sold in 100-200 copies. I read on the internet afterwards. If a writer makes 2-3 dollars on a book, he would have to write 3-6 books a month to at least make a living somehow. Of course, it is better to choose an electronic edition. The costs are much lower, so instead of 10 to 20 percent, up to 80 to 90 percent of the book’s price can be retained. This means that if someone writes 1-2 books a month, they could already live here in Bosnia.

But there is a better option than that.

As I read, the situation is quite different when I publish the book in English. Up to 50 times as many copies can be sold in the U.S. market. In addition, the price of the book may be higher. That's what colleagues do after me!

Under such conditions, you can earn enough to make a living by publishing 2-3 books a year. Of course, if I choose to publish the e-book here as well, maybe writing one book a year would be enough. But I can also choose a combination of the two, which I think is the best.

More specifically, a different solution is best. I have read that there is also a publisher that publishes the book in printed form, but only prints the book when it is ordered and even a book can be printed, i.e. ordered. I think this is the best solution. I’m looking for a publisher that deals with e-book publishing so I can get a better price. But the publisher even prints one copy to order, so I don’t have to give up publishing the printed book. I can't imagine a better solution.

Police questioned more than 50 witnesses about the case. Investigators closed the case, but now reopened it. The perpetrator must be among the witnesses questioned. The witnesses questioned are:

1.     My rating

Definition: Investigator (Dragan Vigor) who reviews and evaluates previous investigative material. I had no insight into the conduct of the investigation. I do not know the circumstances of the investigation, I can only rely on the collected data, the confessions recorded in the minutes and some subsequent research and confessions. .

Data and Note: I know the Muslim police officer leading the investigation. There was no closer connection between us. He studied at university with a generation two years older before me. He was considered a disciplined, good student who tries to focus on every detail and shed light on what happened. I have heard of an investigator who does not make a hasty decision and rely only on actual data in his decision making. Use non-factual opinions only to determine the course of the investigation. In this sense, although we did not have a closer relationship and I could not contact him after reviewing the investigation material, in order to receive clarifications and additional information, I consider his investigation material as a fair basis, I accept his opinion, but I try to find more information.

Confession: According to the minutes, the guard in the shooting station that morning, who was watching the Serbian positions and watching mainly the movements of Serbian units and soldiers, noticed some unknown object between the Serbian and Muslim lines. He immediately notified his superior and then contacted the Serbian units. The Serbian observer confirmed that he saw the indicated thing. He also confirmed the local observer's assertion that the thing was not there in the evenings, so presumably it could have gotten there during the night. But during the night he did not notice any movement between the military front lines. The negotiating parties agreed that the Srebrnica police tradesmen and investigators (five people in total: one detective in civilian clothes) and the subordinates in uniform and the coroner in a white cloak) could go unarmed, which would in all likelihood result in a dead human tetem. They can move away from the corpse in the direction of Serbian units for a maximum of five meters, solely to uncover traces. If this is violated, Serbian soldiers will direct the first shot into the air and then shoot the target in violation of the agreement. The Srebrnica police force must then leave the area between the two lines within 10 minutes with the wounded and the body previously found.

According to the agreement, at two o'clock in the afternoon, the designated staff crossed the city's defensive line at the specified location, inspected the female body found, collected the objects around the body and, as a rule, made recordings of the location of the objects. In the meantime, he made sure that the camera lens was not aimed at the Serbian units at any moment. I sent the corpse for an autopsy, the found objects for laboratory examination, and I took large pictures of the recordings so I could analyze the scene.

Interrogator's note: I'll get the photos ready the next morning. In the pictures, I am primarily looking for clues to movement. At the same time, I try to deduce from the position of the objects found on the spot how they could have gotten there.

After the staff returned, the military defense officer appeared at the police and interrogated the detectives. His questions focused on the status and movement of Serbian soldiers. I consider myself a patriot determined to defend the city, but I think this behavior is not fair. I also communicated this to the Reverend who demanded the film made on the spot. I said there are still pictures of it and you have no right to take it. Nevertheless, the officer went from the police to the photo lab. As notified in the evening, the officer was present throughout the pictures. He then took the film with him.

I can imagine more precisely. And I want to make it happen. I don’t want to publish a simple, traditional book, but something completely new. One that no one has written before. I would also like to involve the reader in the plot. Don't just be a passive reader.

**********

I thought I would put a question and a free space after each protocol where the reader could have their say. Like this:

If you read the minutes and thought about what you read, who do you think could be the killer?

Why?

1.     Detective

Definition:. Srebrnica Police, Detective No. 5.

Data and Note: A morning observer from the city military drew attention to a strange object. By agreement between the two armies, we conducted the site and collected the found objects. We performed the identification of the corpse and the laboratory inspection of the objects. I looked through the photos I took on the spot.

Confession: The body found belongs to a young woman aged 27-30. Athletic physique, beautiful figure. The corpse was completely naked.

According to the medical expert, the woman had a regular sex life but had no sexual intercourse at the time of her death. The woman was strangled. The strangulation was done with some wide mouth (probably a male trouser strap found near the body. Shards of skin from two different individuals were found on the strap. One came from the victim's neck on the strap and the other from an unknown one. He was a man.

No other wounds, abrasions or traces of physical attack were found on the woman's body. He most likely knew his later killer well and was not afraid that the man would kill him.

A lighter, said trouser strap, was found at the scene. The shoe traces found on the spot are unidentifiable. They indicate very shallow soles or very worn shoes. Definitely not military or police boots.

The photos clearly show that the grass was barely trampled and only a footprint can be removed. There is also a trace of a motorcycle in the grass. Since there was no military movement at this time, nor did the observers hear a motor murmur, the motorcycle was certainly pushed. Most likely the woman was killed elsewhere and pushed on the bike to the scene where we found her. This is also indicated by the fact that the trace of the motor from the body in one direction is slightly deeper in the grass than in the other direction. Shoe marks next to the engine can be scattered, but it can also be inferred from this that the motorcycle has been pushed.

The girl's identity was established. Her name is Ana Sase, 27 years old. He graduated from the University of Sarajevo. According to first information, he studied English and American literature and graduated with excellent grades. Since Srebrnican did not get a job in her profession, she worked as a waitress in a city bar. Many knew it. He was also one of my acquaintances personally.

Interrogator's note: The following should be heard:

The woman's family members

Woman workers at work

The regulars of the woman's workplace

The woman's current and former acquaintances

The observer who saw the corpse

Other people as needed.

Investigator's Note (Dragan Vigor): Professional conduct of the investigation. Personally, since I already have the opportunity to do so, I am expanding the range of interrogators to those who may have been in contact with the victim, but the Muslim police detective did not have the opportunity to interrogate them.
